Great debates in Canton last night between Wes Shoemyer & Bob Behnen and Beau Hicks & Brian Munzlinger. The event was sponsored by WGEM & the Canton chapter of AAUW. There was a good crowd to watch the debates…an AAUW member told me that she thought sixty to seventy people. The debates will be televised next week on WGEM-TV. How would I score the debates? The Senate debate was close…I don’t think the debate would change anyone’s mind. The House debate was livelier. I think the Beau Hicks scored a technical knock-out on Brian Munzlinger.

I felt Shoemyer won the debate. His honesty, integrity and charm clearly won over the slick technobabble of Behnen. Wes’s down home style is obviously superior to the overbearing Behnen. If one paid close attention to the issues, Wes is on the right side, that is unless you are a corporate executive of Monsanto or Walmart.

I agree that Wes is on the right side. I think that Behnen is a cookie cutter GOP legislative type, a hollow man making hollow promises. But Behnen did not make any major slips. He didn’t hurt Wes but he didn’t take any serious damage either. I still don’t think that last night’s debate alone will change anyones opinion. I think that you might like the post that I made on Bob Behnen & agriculture.
